Youth Mobility Information


  • Children 5 and under ride free.
  • All youth ages 6 – 18 are eligible for deeply discounted fares via ORCA Youth cards.
  • All Seattle Public Schools middle and high school students are eligible for a free unlimited use ORCA Opportunity Youth Pass.
  • South Seattle College students are eligible for a deeply discounted student ORCA pass.
  • Seattle Public Schools bus service availability depends on grade level, how far students live from school, and other eligibility requirements.
  • Students at private schools can access ORCA Youth cards through King County Metro. Monthly unlimited-use passes can be added to ORCA Youth cards for $54 per month. If your student plans on riding transit to and from school every day, this is the most cost-effective option
  • Talk to your kids about safety and security. Here are some suggestions from Metro to support that conversation.

Carpooling and Vanpooling

  • Many schools organize carpools; ask your school or parent group for more information.
  • Youth under the age of 18 may ride Metro vanpools if accompanied by a legal guardian.
  • Adult guardians are responsible for providing appropriate safety seats for youth riders.

Walking & Biking


  • All local e-scooter vendors require that users must be 18 or older. This is stated in the Terms and Conditions you agree to when setting up an account with each company.
  • Children should not ride e-scooters along with adult operators. The scooter vendors specify that only one rider per scooter is allowed for safety reasons.
