Sound Transit train in tunnel downtown

Metro and Sound Transit buses are shifting from the tunnel to surface streets as Washington State Convention Center expansion continues and ahead of East Link light rail construction at the south end of the tunnel.

As light rail has expanded, fewer bus routes operate in the tunnel. Still, some of the region’s busiest bus routes operate there today. Bus service in the tunnel is ending to allow for increased light rail service to Northgate in 2021 and to the Eastside in 2023, both of which will use the tunnel.

Bus Service Ends in Transit Tunnel

March 2019 | King County Metro bus routes 41, 74, 101, 102, 150, 255 and Sound Transit Express Route 550 buses will no longer use the transit tunnel and will operate on surface streets.
