Flip Your Trip – Downtown – FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Flip Your Trip?

Flip Your Trip is a program to encourage people to drive less and support them in trying other ways of getting around. Learn more about transportation options here.

Who is eligible to take the pledge?

Anyone can pledge to flip your trip! And if everyone did, even just once per week, it would make a difference! So, get on board, flip your trip, and sail past summer traffic via bus, bike, train, scooter, vanpool, carpool, ORCA pod….

How do I sign up?

Go to FlipYourTrip.org/pledge where you may sign up by completing a simple form where you can pledge to replace at least one drive-alone trip per week with another option. Eligible participants may also register for up to $25 in transit fares. Within 7 days of signing up, you will receive a Welcome Email with information about next steps.

Who is eligible for the transit subsidy

The transit subsidy aspect of this program is intended to serve people who:

  • Do not have access to a free or discounted bus pass from an employer
  • Travel to the greater downtown Seattle area (see map) at least once per week.
  • Currently drive alone to the downtown area most of the time.
  • Are 19 years of age or older (do not have access to a free youth transit pass)

Should I request the ORCA card or the Transit GO Ticket App?

When you sign up, you will be asked to select the $25 in transit fares  in the form of a prepaid ORCA card, or using the Transit GO Ticket app. Here are some considerations to guide your choice when you sign up.

The ORCA Card option may be best for you if you:

  • Do NOT have a smartphone or data plan
  • Frequently use transit transfers (not currently possible in the TGT app)
  • You plan to ride Pierce Transit or Community Transit (not currently in the app)
  • Have limited English proficiency (the app is currently available in English and Spanish only)
  • Simply prefer an ORCA card
  • Are not interested in using the subsidy for shared scooters or e-bikes

The Transit GO Ticket app option may be best for you if you:

  • Have a smartphone and data plan
  • Already have the Transit GO app
  • Are comfortable with new apps
  • Want to apply the subsidy to rides on shared scooters or e-bikes
  • Are proficient in English or Spanish

What do you consider the greater downtown Seattle area?

  • Denny Triangle

I signed up online but did NOT receive a welcome email

First, check your Spam or Junk Mail folders for an email with the subject “Welcome to Flip Your Trip” from  info@FlipYourTrip.org  If you still can’t find it, please email us at info@FlipYourTrip.org for help.

Why are youth 19 and under not eligible for the Flip Your Trip campaign?

  • Flip Your Trip is intended for adults 19 years of age and older.
  • Youth 19 and under are already eligible for FREE transit, and do not need a transit subsidy.
  • The Flip Your Trip credits can be redeemed on Transit Go Ticket for rides on shared scooters and e-bike vendors that are available only to adults 18 years of age and older. This is in place to protect youth and others from physical, legal and financial risk.
